Membership

GIE Membership
   
  • GIE membership is open only to TSOs (hereafter "GTE Member(s)"), SSOs (hereafter "GSE Member(s)") and TOs (hereafter "GLE Member(s)") as defined in Article II of the GIE Statutes (together "GIE Member(s)"). 

  • There are no limits to the number of GIE Members from one country. Members have to be in conformity with the laws and practices in their country.

  • Application for new GIE membership will be addressed to the GIE President in writing and will be submitted to the approval of the GIE General Assembly. The application will substantiate that the applicant is a TSO, and/or SSO, and/or TO as defined in Article II. The applicant must endorse the ambit and main objectives of GIE as defined in Article III.

Excerpt from GIE Statutes - ARTICLE II - Definitions
  • The term “Transmission System Operator”  (TSO) shall mean any firm or corporation having the responsibilities for major parts of the international natural gas high-pressure transmission network in Europe being linked to other major natural gas high pressure transmission networks at major cross-border points; thus being in a position to facilitate cross-border transmission.

  • The term “Storage System Operator” (SSO) shall mean any firm or corporation, including storage sections of integrated companies: having the responsibility for natural gas storage facilities in Europe. that are directly connected to a transmission network.

  • The term “LNG Terminal Operator” (TO) shall mean any firm or corporation, including LNG sections of integrated companies: having the responsibility for LNG facilities in Europe and carrying out functions of  offloading, loading and regasification of LNG that are directly connected to a transmission network and/or a natural gas storage facility that is directly connected to a transmission network.
