LNG terminals connect the EU gas market to a global market with many different sources. LNG terminals do not only allow diversification of supply, but also contribute to the security of gas supply and provide a valuable flexibility to the market. The regasification capacity has been multiplied by more than four times since 2002.

LNG import volumes to the EU
From 2002 to 2011 the LNG import volumes showed an annual increase and more than doubled. But due to the high demand in Asia, imports to Europe have decreased drastically since 2012.
