The European Commission has presented its REPowerEU Plan including a 35 bcm biomethane target. To reach that target there is an urgent need for GIE members to share experiences and knowledge on the biomethane topic to identify the key problems to be solved. To create a place for such knowledge sharing, the GIE has invited Open Door Lab, an innovation lab at Energinet (the Danish TSO) to design a process built for co-creation.

The objectives?

  • Identify barriers and possible solutions to reach the 35 bcm target.
  • Give insight and inspiration to GIE members on how to enable increased integration of biomethane.
  • Kickstart GIE cooperation on biomethane by agreeing on a future setup for how to provide answers to the question: “How can we as infrastructure operators facilitate reaching the 35 bcm target?”.
  • Plan specific actions for the next steps within GIE

Topics we will tackle

  • Models for market designs
  • Gas quality
  • Network planning

Practical information

  • What: A two-day workshop facilitated by Energinet’s Open Door Lab
  • When: 5-6 October 2022 (full days)
  • Where: Brussels, GIE premises
