Gas Infrastructure Europe (GIE) published updated versions of its Storage Map & Database and LNG Map & Database, bringing together information on Europe’s existing, developing and planned gas storage and LNG infrastructure.
As Europe’s energy system continues to evolve, understanding the infrastructure available to support security of supply, flexibility and the integration of new energy sources requires more than a snapshot of daily market conditions. GIE’s updated maps provide a broader view of where infrastructure is located, what it can provide today and how the infrastructure landscape is developing for the future.
The Storage and LNG Maps & Databases complement GIE’s operational transparency platforms AGSI+ and ALSI, which provide daily information on gas storage and LNG inventories. While AGSI+ and ALSI show what is happening in the market, the maps and databases provide a wider picture of the infrastructure behind those flows.
The updated maps combine technical and capacity information on facilities, project developments and geographical data, covering existing infrastructure as well as projects under construction and in planning. The maps provide a clear geographical picture of Europe’s infrastructure, while the accompanying databases allow users to access and work with the underlying data for future analysis.
“Europe’s energy infrastructure is changing, and having a clear picture of that infrastructure matters,” said Lucie Boost, GIE Secretary General. “Our operational platforms show what is happening in storage and LNG markets every day. The Maps and Databases add another dimension by showing where the infrastructure is, what is being developed and how the overall landscape is evolving. Together, these tools give stakeholders a complete picture of Europe’s energy infrastructure.”
The platforms provide:
By bringing operational, technical and geographical information together, GIE’s transparency platforms provide stakeholders with different perspectives of Europe’s gas infrastructure, from daily market conditions to the infrastructure that supports security of supply and flexibility across the energy system.
Background Information
About the Storage and LNG Maps & Databases
The GIE Storage and LNG Maps & Databases provide a comprehensive overview of European gas storage and LNG infrastructure. They locate and describe facilities across Europe, including existing assets, projects under construction, and those in planning.
These tools complement GIE’s transparency platforms AGSI+ (Aggregated Gas Storage Inventory) and ALSI (Aggregated LNG Storage Inventory), which provide operational market data. Together, these initiatives form a comprehensive transparency ecosystem that combines operational, technical, geographical, and analytical information on Europe’s gas infrastructure.
About AGSI+ and ALSI
AGSI+ and ALSI are Europe’s recognised transparency platforms for gas storage and LNG data, providing market participants and policymakers with access to operational information through data visualisations, analytics and interactive reporting tools.
