GIE Begins 2025 with Exciting Expansion, New Board Members, and a Continued Commitment to EU Energy Transformation.
As 2025 begins, Gas Infrastructure Europe (GIE) is proud to announce the addition of two new members to its Board. This marks an exciting new chapter for our association as it continues its mission to foster collaboration and innovation across Europe’s gas sector. With the inclusion of these new members, the board now comprises 15 esteemed leaders, including GIE President Arno Büx.
The two new members bring with them a wealth of expertise and perspectives:

The European Market is intrinsically linked, and interconnectors provide security of supply by allowing the import and export of gas as needed. It is vital that we collaborate to maintain the performance of the current transmission networks and align our approach for future decarbonised systems. As a board member for GIE and GTE, I am committed to delivering a clean energy future for Europe, working alongside the European Transmission System Operators (TSO’s).” |
Michalis Thomadakis, Head of Strategy & Development Division at DESFA,said, “LNG Terminals play a pivotal role in the competitiveness, security of supply, and sustainability of energy in the EU today and in the future. Indeed, LNG terminals handle a third of the EU’s gas demand, and can be cost-effectively, quickly and gradually converted to hybrid hubs to handle a variety of molecules. As member of the GLE Executive Committee and of the GIE Board, I’m looking forward to engaging with the new Commission on energy, industry, port and transport issues around the LNG Terminals.” | ![]() |

The European Commission’s REPowerEU initiative remains central to the EU’s energy strategy, aiming to accelerate the transition towards a more sustainable and secure energy future. As part of this mission, GIE is committed to supporting the European Commission and the broader energy sector in achieving these objectives.
GIE’s Board expansion reflects our dedication to enhancing collaboration and driving progress in the energy sector. With the addition of new members, we are increasing our capacity to address the challenges and opportunities ahead. The expertise and insights of these new leaders will be instrumental in accelerating our work to support the EU’s ambitious energy goals.
As we step into this important year, GIE is committed to working alongside its members and partners to build a resilient, sustainable, and competitive European energy sector.
